Let’s get high.
Before we do that, let’s get this out of the way.
This is a personal opinion piece. I am not telling you to do drugs, buy weed, etc. I am not a doctor.
Everything I say is a result of personal experience of over 10 years. This is not to say you should do it too. It’s not to say that it is healthy, smart, safe, etc.
This is just saying what I do and my recommendations for how to do so, if you choose.
People often come to me for advice on weed. They ask how does it make you feel, how do you get it, how do you know what to get, how much do you to take, etc.
I am not a weed expert. I know enough to be dangerous.
Being much “further along” in my understanding of cannabis than the average person, my advice can help.
Weed and saunas
When I smoke before the sauna, it’s socially, to relax, and it gives you a different sensation.
Saunas are a social setting. You share laughs and have deep conversations with loved ones and friends. You can even meet new people in public saunas.
There is nothing that brings a group together like our good ole friend, Mary Jane. Combining this AND the sauna is a great time for all.
You can hotbox your sauna, but lighting up and smoking inside obviously comes with the risk of fire and death. I don’t recommend smoking inside the sauna; although I have done it and I know people do it.
You can pass a vape around in the sauna with no problem.
Infrared saunas are easy to hot box. They are more comfortable temperature-wise, smaller, and don’t have that massive heater.
If you are going to hotbox, I’d use a glass pipe, as opposed to a joint, because they are less likely to start a fire.
Others love to finish their sauna session with a joint, bowl, bong hit, or whatever. They’d rather get through the heat sober, and have the weed reward.
It’s very popular in Canadian and Northern European cultures to finish with a cold beer. The equivalent of cold beer for a weed user is a fat joint.
What kind of weed should you smoke for the sauna?
The best weed depends on what kind of vibe you are going for.
Indica’s are more of a body relaxing, melting into the couch feeling. It’s more for pain relief and sleeping.
Think of in-di-ca, in-da-couch.
They have shorter and wider leaves.
A sativa is more euphoric, uplifting, and creative. It’s a head high with less in the body.
The leaves are longer and thinner.
An indica is what I go for when I am smoking later in the evening with no plans to do anything afterward.
A sativa is for when I’m with friends because of the uplifting, euphoric effects. I don’t want to fall asleep.
For those reasons, sativas are also great for a mid-day sauna session.
Then there are hybrids, which are a combination of both. This would be more your all-purpose, as opposed to a specific feeling.
Weed and exercise
Sometimes I’ll consume weed before I exercise. Then I use the sauna.
That all depends on the exercises, and my commitment level that day.
You seem to notice your muscles and your body more when you are high. This is when I do less intensity strength training.
For example, I may do several sets of kettlebell swings, but not to exhaustion. It’ll be a more manageable weight and repetitions.
This strategy is good for when you want to train, but not push too much.
My performance is better sober, but there is a different sensation that is worth trying when you are lifting.
It’s the same for me with the sauna.
Relaxing benefits of weed and saunas
Weed and saunas are relaxing.
The sauna is a great place to decompress from your day. It seems to vanish a lot of my problems by giving you that endorphin rush from the heat stress.
Combine that with muscles and body relaxation, you are left feeling great after a sauna session.
Weed can supplement this as well. I often find myself being retrospective, as well as loving and forgiving with weed.
Combining the two leaves me feeling happy and light as a cloud.
I typically do an indica later in the day.
The indica will help my body heal. It’ll also tire me right out, helping me get a great sleep at night.
How to legally try weed if it’s not legal in your state
While many of us live in states where weed is legal, some of us don’t.
The best way to try a weed and sauna session legally is with Delta 8. And you can find it in CBD retailers near you.
Delta-9 is one of the different cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. These are naturally occurring compounds that bind with receptors in your body
Delta-8 THC is very similar to Delta-9 THC. They are just different by a few molecules.
Delta-8 THC gives you a buzz and has psychoactive effects, but at a more mild level than Delta-9 THC.
And that comes with less anxiety.
I have and still consume Delta-8. It’s a nice alternative when I want to vape, get some positive effects, but not be anxious during the day.
The reason why it is legal is that federal laws specifically ban Delta-9 THC, not Delta-8 THC.
The best way to consume this is from a vape or edibles.
Vaping is the easiest way.
Just by a pen at the CBD store. The pen is a battery, or powering the device, for you to vape out of.
The edibles are less likely to knock you on your ass compared to regular Delta-9 THC edibles.
I choose the vape. It is easier to control how much I have.
You’ll notice the effects more and immediately, as opposed to waiting for the edibles to digest.
You also don’t have to eat sugar and whatever else is used to make the gummies.
Another route to legally order this online is a company called 3-Chi.
There are other companies but I’ve found them advertising on a number of major podcasts. The product and service is good.
They’re a more reputable brand than some of the brands that local CBD stores get.
Don’t be an idiot
I don’t always do it. I don’t abuse it.
It’s not an “I need to get high before I go to the sauna” situation.
Only do it if you are both an experienced sauna user and an experienced weed user.
Also, don’t get super stoned. You don’t want to be so high that you have a panic attack.
And I wouldn’t use other drugs, like mushrooms, LSD, Molly, Coke, Heroin, Meth, or whatever else besides weed.
Lastly, don’t start a fire in your sauna from the weed.
